What this site is

HVAC Quote Check (ratemyhvacquote.com) lets you check an HVAC replacement quote against prices other homeowners submitted, read cost guides, and sign up for local price updates. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. Our privacy page explains what we collect and why.

Information only, not professional advice

Everything on this site is general information. It is not HVAC, engineering, contractor, financial, tax or legal advice, and it isn't a substitute for a site visit, a load calculation (such as Manual J) or advice from a qualified professional. We don't inspect homes, and we don't know your home's details beyond what you type in.

Grades and prices are estimates

A grade, a "fair" or "high" verdict, a price range or a median is our opinion, based on a statistical comparison with the quotes we have. It can be wrong. Submitted quotes are moderated but not independently verified. Small samples are less reliable. Quotes differ in scope, equipment, region and timing, and the same price can be fair for one home and high for another. Figures from third-party sources and public forum posts are shown as published and labeled as such, and we don't verify them.

We don't recommend, endorse, employ or supervise any contractor, and we aren't responsible for any contractor's work, prices, licensing or conduct. Check a contractor's license, insurance and references yourself.

What you submit

Only submit information you have the right to share. Don't include other people's personal details: no names, phone numbers, emails or addresses for you, a contractor or anyone else in free-text fields. Quotes must be real. Don't make up quotes or submit the same quote over and over.

Your quote stays private unless you add it. When you check a quote, we save it so we can grade it and show you your report. It isn't added to our price data unless you tap "Add my quote" on your report. The button shows this wording:

Add this quote, anonymously, to HVAC Quote Check's price data. After review it can count toward ranges, medians and grades, and appear as an anonymous row (date, city, state, size, efficiency, brand and price; not the ZIP) on cost pages.

By tapping it, you give HVAC Quote Check permission (a non-exclusive, royalty-free license) to store, review, use and publish that quote's details as described there: in our ranges, medians and grades, and as an anonymous row on cost pages, without your ZIP. We may decline or remove any quote. If you change your mind, ask us and we'll take your quote out of our data. Figures we already calculated from it will update the next time those numbers refresh.

Feedback you send can be used to fix and improve the site. Photos and PDFs you use to fill in the form are read on your own device and never uploaded to us.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

• submit fake, misleading or spam quotes, feedback or signups, or try to skew grades or price data;
• post anyone's personal information, or anything unlawful, abusive or infringing;
• try to get into admin pages, other people's reports or our systems, or interfere with the site's security or normal operation;
• scrape, crawl or copy the site in bulk, or overload it with automated requests (normal search-engine crawling is fine);
• pass our grades or data off as your own professional assessment, or suggest we endorse you.

We may block access, remove content or ignore submissions that break these rules.

Links and affiliate links

We link to other sites, such as sources we cite, public forum posts and stores. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them. Some links may be affiliate links: if you buy through one, we earn a commission. They're always labeled and never affect grades or price data. See our affiliate disclosure.

Our content

The site's design, text, guides and compiled price data belong to HVAC Quote Check. You're welcome to read and share links, quote short parts with a link back, and use your own report however you like.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises, express or implied, that it will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Decisions about your home, your project and which contractor to hire are yours.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, HVAC Quote Check and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost money, savings or data, arising from your use of the site or reliance on its grades, prices or guides, including any decision to accept or reject a quote or hire a contractor. The site is free. Some places don't allow certain of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Changes

We may update the site and these terms. When we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Changes apply from that date; using the site after that means you accept them. We may change or stop any feature at any time.
